Mansfield, TX Milestone Photographer | Faith’s Cake Smash Session

I first met Dezzerae when she came to me for a newborn session. I was so excited as I had recently taken a course in posing and was certain she would love her photos with my improved techniques. This was her first baby and I just knew how special these portraits were to her and her husband. She not only loved her photos, but she came back to the studio for the holidays about 6mo later, when I brought in Santa! Faith was the most smiling baby girl I’ve had in the studio and I told Dezzerae that I could only wait for her Cake Smash, she was gonna rock it!

Dezzerae reached out to me a couple months ago with her vision for the session. Faith’s first birthday theme would be ‘Nemo’ so that’s the set we did! I showed her the colors, set props and outfit options for Faith and it was settled. We would be more than prepared for the session.

On session day, we started with some photos before the cake smashing. Usually, this helps baby get acclimated to the set and my camera. But Faith knew me, she recognized my voice and I worked slowly to make sure she was comfortable with me and my direction. She started to smile more and more and that was our que to bring in the cake!

She was a little hesitant to touch it, so I gave her a spatula for her to hold and help her get started. We then tried rubbing some icing on her hand, which she immediately put in her mouth. Her facial expression, trying that much sugar for the first time was priceless! Mom mentioned she had never tried sugar before so this was very new to her. Of course we captured that moment and it turned out to be one of their favorites from the session.

The session took about 30-40 minutes and we got so many cute photos, it was hard to choose! Mom ended up ordering prints to give as party gifts at the party and ordered a Photo Tile to display at the dessert table.

Watching the newborns I photograph grow up and getting to be a part in their milestones is something I hold dear to my heart. I can’t wait for her to come back for her next milestone!
