Mansfield, TX Cake Smash Photographer | Max’s Cowboy Cake Smash
I first met baby Max as a newborn in 2023 when his mama reached out to me for a session. He was so little and I just couldn’t believe it when she reached out to me to book his first birthday session! Time sure does fly.
For the theme, as they are each customized to my client’s preference, they chose a Cowboy-Farm theme. She had a couple of outfits that she wanted to use for the session, so I planned for that. And I began preparing everything, from the background to the decoration of the set. I have some tiny hay stacks so we were sure to use those, as well as all wood-like props that matched the theme.
The day arrived, they came in and Max was a little unsure about the whole thing. This is common for most babies, this is all new to them and ‘what do you mean I have to make a mess with my food?’ That usually doesn’t happen haha! So I began by warming Max up to me, making him smile little by little before even begin the session. I bring out small toys, and get them familiar with my camera by playing peek-a-boo behind it. Then I started taking photos of Max on the set, but without the cake, it takes the pressure off of him to suddenly eat cake at 10:00 in the morning and also serves to get photos of him in this milestone!

After a while, we got the cake on set and Max wasn’t too sure about it. So that’s when I bring out my clear spoons and carve out a big piece and “help” him make a mess. That way he knows, it's ok to play with it. His eyes lit up after we did that. He began "painting” the floor with the cake! Mom & Dad couldn’t help but laugh right along with him. He then began to eat the cake and oh boy, there was no coming back from that! He loved his cake so much that it got all over his face, clothes and feet! And that’s exactly what we want here at Rainbow Photography, to make memories as we capture the biggest milestones in your life! I’m sure Max will hear the story of his cake smash session for years, about how much he loved his cake and painted the floor with it. Haha!!
