Mansfield, TX Maternity Photographer | Marcela’s Fine Art Maternity Session

As a photographer that specializes in babies, get last minute calls all the time. Wether that is new moms who just had their babies and decided they want to book a newborn session or clients who didn’t want a maternity photo shoot at first but then changed their minds. The usual reason for the latter is that they didn’t feel their best but then realized they don’t know when or if they’ll be pregnant again. I do my best to schedule them in because I understand that motherhood is like this, unpredictable and emotionally challenging!

So when Marcela reached out to me requesting a maternity session and said it was needed urgently, I wasn’t too surprised. What I didn’t expect was to hear the words “I’m in the hospital, though.” well, that was unexpected. So of course, I asked her details on the situation, why are you in the hospital for? Are you or baby at risk? How far along are you? I needed to know these things in order to determine what type of session I could offer. Her health and her baby’s is my number one priority and I was not going to put either at risk. She tells me she is being monitored as she had started signs of labor, her and baby are ok, she is just being monitored and has to remain in the hospital until delivery. Phew! Talk about a challenge! She had scheduled a regular maternity session with another photographer but had to cancel due to the change in plans. I needed to make this happen for her. So I requested that she gets approval from her doctor and the hospital to do the session. I needed to know her restrictions in order to keep her safe and comfortable as this wasn’t a regular maternity session. We went over her gown choices for me to bring and set the date for a couple of days after our conversation.

The day came, I packed up and headed out to her hospital. I arrived and set up a small studio in a small room and got started. Mom looked beautiful. She was concerned about her swelling and the IV connected to her arm, and I told her not to worry, she looked stunning. We finished the session and I headed home. Well isn’t timing everything? She texted me the next day that she delivered her babies that night! I could not be more happy for her, she got her wish at having her maternity session just in time!

This is why I do what I do. Making my clients happy one photo at a time.
