Mansfield, TX Portrait Photographer | A’Cureya’s Senior Grad Session
When our babies grow up.. it can be so bitter sweet. Little by little, they need less help from us. The go from depending entirely on us for food, cleaning and sleeping to taking their first steps into independence without our help. They hold our hand on their first day of school, we set up uniforms for their first ball game, we sit front row at their first recital and one day before you know it, they’re filling out college applications and talking about a job and what they will do with their future. And we prepared them for this, but are WE prepared for it? To watch them walk out the front door? It once meant they’d be back at 3:00pm and now you know you will see them mostly on holidays from now on.
As a mama of a teenager and toddlers, I see that contrast day by day and it certainly makes me hold on to them a little tighter. So when Antrevia reached out to me for her daughter’s Senior session, I immediately replied ‘yes’.
Antrevia contacted me and had a vision for the session. She invested time and effort into making customized props for her daughter’s photo shoot. From a custom stole with their favorite verse, to jeans and a skirt with “2024” and “Senior” patches! She had in mind about 5 outfit changes. I was so excited for them as I could see how much this session meant to them both.
Now let me tell you about A’Cureya. I don’t know how it is possible to be that stunning, really. I’m sure the ‘teenage awkward-stage’ never crossed her path. She has the most beautiful and kind personality. But besides her stunning beauty, she walks in confidence and grace. She will be attending Nursing School, and I can already tell you she will be so amazing at it. She has been raised well. She was incredibly respectful and well-mannered but most of all, she was always kind to her mama first of all, and to me, a total stranger! Those are certainly must-have qualities to excel in life.
Her session day was here. We had discussed color schemes and decided Grey was the way to go. What excited me the most about her session is that she is a Drill Team member at her High School! And as a former ‘Celebrity’ myself (that was our Drill Team name) I couldn’t wait to photograph her in her uniform! So we began. It was incredibly easy to pose her, because like I said, girlfriend has confidence! We were able to fit all the outfits in the session and let me tell you, she looked AMAZING in all of them.
Time for the reveal! I met with Antrevia and A’Cureya in person to display their gallery. I created her a photo slide so they could see all 60+ photos! Mama was tearing up. To see her baby all grown up, meant so much to her. To know she had done well and she raised an incredible young woman. She got all the photos she could! All of these are special in their own way. and I was just happy to make this vision a reality for them as a family.
Time really is a thief. Our babies grow up in what it seems to be ‘the blink of an eye’ and we must cherish every moment. As parents, we hear that all the time. The stages are not at all easy. Especially when they’re toddlers, we survive by the Grace of God and when they’re teenagers, they do. But one day they really won’t need us at all and all we will have, are the photos of their most special moments. So in lieu of Mother’s Day approaching too fast, take the photos. Schedule the session and embrace the chaos around it. When it’s all said and done, these photos will be the only windows you’ll be able to look through, back into their childhood.
